The Post-Accutane skincare routine

It’s been about five months since I ended my Accutane treatment (I stopped with a few months to go because I moved to the UK for school) and despite the rude friends that popped up this week, my skin has remained surprisingly clear! I’ve changed a few things in my skincare routine since my last post because back then, I was dealing with dry, peeling skin that really needed careful attention and buckets of moisture. Now, I’m working with SUPER oily skin that I’m worried could break out at any moment (old fears die hard). Despite the addition and subtraction of certain products, the biggest change I’ve made is in how I perceive my skin and its imperfections. Cheesy, I know, but it’s true; I no longer freak out at the sight of a pimple, nor do I attack it with every blemish-fighting product in my arsenal. I want to preserve my clear and youthful skin because I really appreciate it and how far we’ve come (Accutane wasn’t super intense for me, but it definitely was a journey). That being said, I have realised that the more you mess with acne, the longer it lingers in the form of a scar, a red mark, a crater or even just staying on your face longer, which is why I have a streamlined and effective skincare routine in place these days.

My Skincare Routine

IMG_1002

Hello! It’s strange to say that within the past year, I’ve shifted my attention from makeup to skincare, no longer pining after eyeshadow palettes, rather I’ve been hoarding pennies to save up for expensive eye creams. I’m nearing the end of 23 and while I do still feel quite young and like I have my whole life ahead of me, I also want to preserve as much of my youthful skin as possible. Really though, my biggest problem has always been acne. I’ve never known how to deal with it and seem to kill it with intense products. My skin has been so nice the past two years in comparison to my teenage years and very early twenties. Yes, I’ve had my really bad days (weeks, actually), but I’ve also had moments with my clearest skin.

2015 Favorites

2015 was the year of perspective. I had so much fun really discovering the world of makeup the past two years, spending waaay more money than I ever needed to. This year, I was thoughtful and really asked myself whether or not something was worth the extra expense. I cancelled all of my beauty subscriptions (until Play! by Sephora came around..heh) and I redirected my efforts to skincare rather than just focusing on makeup, showing a ton of restraint (even when Hourglass released those pieces of art known as the Exposure Modernist Eyeshadow Palettes). That being said, I really discovered a lot of gems and feel like I am closer to getting that perfect concealer and the best foundation for me. I didn’t break it down by specific category this year, rather just looked at my collection and picked out the things I enjoyed most throughout the year. Now that I’ve harped on for ages in the intro, I’ll try to be quicker in my descriptions of my 2015 faves.

FIRST OF ALL – IT’S THE BLOG’S ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY ON WORDPRESS! It’s come a long way since then and I hope it continues to grow.

Now on with the post: I am a strategic shopper. I wait for sales and then I ready my wallet. This time of year usually sees the best sales, so along with getting discounted Christmas presents for others, I also like to treat myself. This year I might have gone a little bit overboard because I actually had a good amount of money saved up and I graduated, meaning I literally deserve everything (this is how I justify these things to myself). From splurging on a MAC pigment (one of very few fully priced items in the batch) to the annual Sephora VIB sale, here’s what I’ve been buying:
